    Center City Quarterly

    Call for Submissions

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, which makes programming and event-planning challenging at best, we are taking a novel approach to the Summer issue of the CCQ.  We decided this would be the perfect time to focus on those in our neighborhood and the greater community who are having an impact in ways large and small in helping us through this crisis.

Do you know of a neighbor, friend, relative, service provider or local merchant who is going to extraordinary lengths to make life better for others?  Do you have a story of your own to share?  Pictures of good Samaritans in action?  We want to gather them all, and share them in a special online edition of the Center City Quarterly.

This will serve as our Summer issue, so any regular features, such as the President’s Report and Calendar of Events, will still appear accordingly, along with announcements and updates on events that were previously published.

    Details:

    • Deadline:  May 15
    •  Send submissions via email to centercity@centercityresidents.org, with CCQeditor in the subject line; please be sure to obtain your subject’s permission to be featured
    • Copy preferred in the form of Word attachments, 250-700 words
    • Photos, artwork and graphics should be submitted as jpg files (as large-format as possible); be sure to include complete CAPTION and CREDIT information

Gov. Tom Wolf announced the first small steps in reopening some businesses.

"Our new case numbers have stabilized, and we have prevented the patient surges that we were all so concerned about and that we saw in other places," Wolf said during a news conference Monday. "We are taking small steps towards regaining a degree of normalcy."

The statewide stay-at-home order has been extended through May 8, but then officials will start to ease some restrictions, Wolf said.

The phased reopening, starting May 8, will vary by industry and region, the governor said.

Pennsylvania will gradually reopen its economy using a “regional, sector-based approach” and a modeling tool that will help public officials decide when it's safe, according to a plan outlined Friday by Gov. Tom Wolf.

The plan offered few details. It does not include a timetable or spell out the metrics that Wolf and his administration will use to decide that Pennsylvania can begin emerging from the coronavirus pandemic after weeks of social distancing.

Wolf called the plan a “framework” and said he would lay out more concrete steps next week.

Beginning Sunday, 4/19, at 8pm, all in-person businesses across PA must REQUIRE all employees & customers to wear face masks or facial coverings, per a new order issued by state officials on Wednesday.  The order applies to ALL businesses that are continuing "in-person" operations - this means grocery stores, other essential retailers, and take out restaurants will be asked to enforce this policy. The mask does not have to be a surgical one, but it must cover your nose and mouth.

Now more than ever, it's important to promote unity in our community. Center City Residents' Association is excited to partner with several civic organizations in Center City West that are working to address the impact of the coronavirus outbreak on our neighborhood. Big shout out to the Markward Recreation Advisory Council for getting the ball rolling on these fabulous posters!

We are especially mindful of the need to break social isolation as well as support the essential workers who are keeping our neighborhood going in this time of crisis. CCRA is one of many organizations encouraging people to display their support for essential employees by banging pots and pans in outdoor spaces at 7pm every night. We also encourage residents and businesses to display the posters included in this e-mail as a show of solidarity with your neighbors.

Together, we can say thank you to our first responders, healthcare workers, grocery store employees, and countless other frontline workers who are risking their lives everyday as this pandemic unfolds.

As the toll of this crisis becomes more apparent in the future, we welcome your suggestions for how CCRA can support the community in these unprecedented times.

A man just robbed one of our member's  front stoop at 23rd and Spruce.  The man was traveling with a female companion and after walking past once, tried to grab the package on one attempt, stopped, circled back and successfully grabbed it the second attempt.

The member had a door cam and managed to take pictures of suspects.  They were reported to the police.
