Trees lower urban air temperatures. Asphalt and concrete streets and parking lots increase urban temperatures and increase energy costs. Neighbors in a properly tree-shaded area pay reduced energy bills. It’s time to apply for a street tree! The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society plants free street trees twice a year and the deadline for the spring planting is at the end of November.
