Schools and businesses in PA will remain closed until further notice because of the coronavirus pandemic, Gov. Wolf said today.

The stay-at-home order is still in effect.  The order only permit residents to leave home for life-sustaining reasons like grocery shopping, picking up prescriptions, tending to a family member or visiting a hospital for emergency care.  You can also take short walks or runs outside for exercise but must adhere to social distancing guidelines. 

One of our members reported that her son was almost robbed. He was accosted by an armed man, in his 40's at 10 a.m. this morning on the East side of Broad Street, at the intersection of Pine Street.

The man grabbed his arm and repeatedly said, "Give me the cash, give me the cash as he pulled a gun out of his waistband." When he said, "I don't have any," the man said "OK, we're going to Wawa at Broad and Walnut. Walk ahead of me." The son did so, and once at Wawa, began to open the door. The man, seeing an officer inside, tried to pull him away, saying, "You're coming with me." The son entered Wawa, and the man ran off.  He gave a description to the transit officer, who then ran down the street to give a description to the police who were down the block. Homeless men at Wawa were very helpful, pointing in the direction of the robber. They told the son that this was the second attempt at robbery that they had witnessed this morning.

Be careful! Especially during this difficult time.  Be aware of your surroundings at all times.  Be safe!

All Regional Rail Lines will begin operating a ESSENTIAL SERVICE SCHEDULE. This means, trains will operate every 2 hours.  THIS SCHEDULE WILL OPERATE 7 DAYS A WEEK, EXCEPT ON THE CYNWYD LINE. CYNWYD LINE SERVICE WILL BEGIN MONDAY, MARCH 30, 2020 AND WILL ONLY OPERATE MONDAY-FRIDAY.

The murals and hand-washing stations are now located at the Broad Street Ministry (315 South Broad St.), 839 South St., 2774 Kensington Ave. and the 1700 block of east-bound Vine Street. These visual representations of health and safety will continue to be a reminder for Philadelphians that containing this virus is of utmost importance—especially for those who can't self-quarantine during these trying times. Although these displays are temporary, the lasting effect they will bring is incredibly essential. 

The artists behind this project include: Philadelphia-area public and gallery artist NDA, Rad Girl Artist of the Year in 2018 Nile Livingston, Cuban-Egyptian portrait painter Symone Salib and Costa Rican artist Dora Cuenca. All four have a vast range of talent and dedicated their skills collectively to make this mission possible. 

Originally scheduled for March 25, 2020 at 7 PM, the debate between PA State Sen. Larry Farnese and Challenger Nikil Saval has been postponed because the primary has been pushed back from April 26, 2020 to June 2, 2020. Thanks to those of you who sent in questions; we will save them for consideration when the debate is rescheduled. We will keep you posted.

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney on Sunday issued a stay-at-home order for the entire city, his most dramatic effort yet to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The order goes into effect Monday at 8 a.m. and prohibits public and private gatherings outside a single household, with certain exceptions, Philadelphia Managing Director Brian Abernathy said during a news conference Sunday.

Kenney said the was forced to issue the order because prior guidance telling people to stay home to slow the spread of the virus was not having the intended effect.

It has been reported that earlier this week, the Wework Corp., where CCRA has its office, received notice that an employee at one of the business spaces tested positive for the coronavirus.  The last time the employee was in the office was March 11.  Until further notice, the building, located at 1900 Market St, is closed as Wework does a thorough cleaning and disinfecting.  No date has been set to reopen. 

CCRA is operating with very limited services - which includes processing memberships. If you mailed your membership dues, it will not be processed until the office reopens. If you would like to speak with Travis Oliver please email him at centercity@centercityresidents.org.

This presentation is related to the developer's appearance before the Civic Design Review board, currently scheduled for April 7, 2020.

Mayor Kenney has ordered all nonessential businesses to shut down by today at 5pm. Only businesses classified as "essential" by the city, like supermarkets, gas stations, banks, post offices, daycares, and veterinary clinics, will be allowed to remain open.

Because of the shutdown, CCRA will be operating on limited capacity.
