Exhibits and event at the Galleries at The Gershman Y, Philadelphia, PA

5:30 pm           participatory event with Longitudinal Installation

6 - 8 pm           Panel discussion with artists, followed by reception

Two exhibits showing work by artists who are committed to making work that draws attention to environmental issues. Drawn from all over the country, these artists are making ambitious projects aimed at raising consciousness of issues from trash to soil health, and the effects of global climate change. Join the conversation!

In the Borowsky Gallery:

Turn Here Artists promoting environmental awareness            

-         Xavier Cortada, of Miami, FL, recreates his Longitudinal Installation made at the North and South Poles, as an interactive installation welcoming participants’ direct experience of climate change.

-         Eco-artist Tim Gaudreau of Portsmouth, NH will show work from his Lost and Found series, seeking owners of “lost” objects like fast food containers. www.wake-up.ws/about.html

-         Helen Lessick, a public artist in Los Angeles, exhibits Soil Sample Kenya, a project created with sign painters in Kenya to promote awareness of soil health.

In the Open Lens Gallery:

History of the Future

Susannah Sayler and Edward Morris of the Canary Project show stunning images from History of the Future, documenting ecosystems disrupted by global climate change as seen in China, Peru, the Austrian Alps, Niger and the U.S.
