Draw Me a River: A River Restoration Project in Normandy, France
Friday, December 6, 2019,10:30 am
Landscape Architect Abdallah Tabet shares the story of one of his favorite projects: restoring a two mile stretch of a small river damaged by war, time and neglect. Collaborating with hydrological and environmental engineers, the team implemented long-term erosion control and habitat restoration. Careful design work created long views of the river and several species of fish and mammals have reappeared. The client then engaged Abdallah and his team to help with an additional 4 mile stretch of river, as well as adjacent gardens to the river banks.
In his capacity as a designer at OLIN, Abdallah is currently working on the Philadelphia Museum of Art, including the North Entrance inaugurated in September 2019. He has also worked on the design for the visitors’ center for the Chateau of Chantilly, a multi-tiered garden for a LDS Temple in France, museum grounds for the Smithsonian and is leading a master plan of a large plantation in Morocco. He is also a lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania and is a graduate of the American University of Beirut, prior to coming to University of Pennsylvania for his master's.
