HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMITTEE

CHAIR
Ken Luongo

Committee Goals and Activities
The Rittenhouse-Fitler District constitutes a significant part of the CCRA catchment area. The historic fabric of this neighborhood is a major part of Center City's identity and contributes greatly to the quality of life of residents and the experience of visitors to the Center City neighborhood.

The CCRA Historic Preservation Committee has as its goal preserving and respecting this historic fabric. Therefore, it uses the Philadelphia historic preservation ordinance and the CCRA Neighborhood Plan as its guidance and coordinates with the very effective CCRA Zoning Committee in the ongoing effort to improve and maintain the neighborhood. The Committee also coordinates with the Preservation Alliance of Greater Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Historical Commission as well as the Planning Commission. The Committee also promotes education and outreach in order to raise the level of awareness about preservation issues, and to make preservation tasks for the residents of the neighborhood easier to accomplish. The Committee also awards the yearly Bobbye Burke Historic Preservation Award in recognition of important preservation achievements.
